Programming: CC as a programming language was developed in the 1970's by Dennis Ritchie (through the development of the BCPL and B languages). The brief was for a modular and portable language / compiler, even though it was primarily developed for UNIX. Included with the UNIX v5 OS distribution you received a copy of 'The C Programming Language' by Brian Kernigham and Dennis Ritchie (Prentice Hall, 1978). An ANSI standard was developed between 1983 and 1987. |
